NewG5-re-init OS drive first?

Is it a good idea to wipe the brand new OS drive and reinstall OS prior to installing PT and other various music apps on the new G5's? Not planning to partition. I remember we used to do that with OS9. Thanks Mark

Well, one advantage is that you can choose not to install all the useless extra stuff such as languages, fonts and printer drivers that take up over 1GB of disk space. You could also partition your drive, for an emergency boot partition, or for experimentation with alternative OS installs. Other than that I don't think that it is particularly necessary.

I would partition it so you can maintain 2 systems in order to try out new updates and software without risking downtime. otherwise no reason I can see unless you want to remove languages and extra print drivers etc.

Better to add another drive, and forget the partitioning thing. You'll be happy a few years from now...

Thanks All. I just left as is, only OS on 160 gig drive. Kept the factory install. All libraries elsewhere. Should be smooth sailing. Mark

I think the idea of having a second drive or partition for alternate systems (when upgrading etc. ) is a must. I just went from pt 6.4 and 10.3.4 to 6.7 and 10.3.7 that way and it saved me from losing several days of work and I have the peace of mind knowing I can go back if the new config hit a major snag.

i have found that partiioning the mac drive can be a nightmare..causing all kinds of problems..rather have a second drive..getting rid of partitions is almost impossible..it always leaves a ghost partition...had this problem and wound up getting a new system drive on a g4...just my experience i would leave it alone.,

partitions have worked great for me for years. OS9 OSX.... so has having 2 systems. i've also never come to the DUC bitching about an update messing me up either.
