OE or Upgrade?

MessageAuthor

Hi Guys, I recently bought a 1996 850 2.5 10v estate. I had it serviced at a non-volvo garage which replaced the front and rear brake pads. I am so annoyed having to listen to the squeeling of the brakes, every time I apply them. The mechanic's response was that it was something I would have to put up with! Alternatively, I could perhaps get the brake discs de-glazed. I would appreciate anyone's input. Should I replace the pads for OE or go for a upgrade or both discs and brake pads? Does de-glazing actually work?

From my experience I would fit OE pads with shims and copaslip on the back of the pads. This cured the rattle and the braking sounds. Best of luck.

RE: OE or Upgrade?

Hiya, my EBC Greenstuff pads rattle (but don't squeak). As Clan says, if you want peace of mind fit original Volvo. I did try following Jod's advice, and made up a set of shims from cut up beer can superglued to bicycle inner tube for the last set of non OEM pads I was running, and whilst it reduced unwanted noises it didn't cure it entirely. Cheers, Pete
