Duck track

MessageAuthor

I noticed in Steve Jobs keynote that Garageband 3 has a "duck track" feature for podcasters. This feature in knocking around in plenty of audio software but not in Pro tools as far as I can see. I am sure that there are things that one can do with side chain inputs and compressors to lower the level of music under a voice over automatically but this is complicated. I am a voice over artist and spend ages on fiddly little jobs drawing the fades in. Why no duck track feature in PTLE? Is it too naff for Digidesign or is the feature there and I've missed it? It would save me a ton of time.

The side chain input on a compressor is how it's done, and it's really not very complicated.

to elaborate a little use an auxilary send on your voice chanel assign this to a bus. put the compressor on the music channels - use the bus with the "copy" of your voice over on it and put it into the key input.. - this also works great with music too... you could for instance have a sustain guitar power chord - use the the hi hat to open and close the gate on it and enjoy!

Thanks for that. I'll have a play and see if I can get the hang of it.
