protools cant find my 003+ rack and neither can I

MessageAuthor

i recently moved my 1.8ghz g5 mac from my girlfriends house to home so i could keep working on some audio thats close to the due date. when i moved it back and connected it all up i changed the firewire port from the front to the back and now i just cant find the rack at all. its not in prefrences/sound or anything but the link light on the unit is still lit up. i have no idea where it is and protools cant find it either. i'm a mac noob so any help will be appreciated.

the 1 TB is internal, and i dont believe i hot swapped it before i had the issue, but i think i did after. i didnt know this was an issue untill i started searching the troubleshooting. if thats the issue, would the whole unit be ruined? or could it be repaired with a visit to the local repair man?

I think I remember reading some on this forum about someone having to shell out for a repair. Can't recall the details. Actually - it cost my man $500 to replace the FW chip. That's rough as that's more than half the cost of the now on sale 003Rs. Sorry man, sounds like your whole intention was to meet deadline too. Only thing I'd do is reinstall CoreAudio driver to be sure it's not something simple.

well, i do most of my work in reason and i can use the optical port to run my speakers from the mac. its just an inconvenience since it ran my monitors. a mac should be able to detect it yeah? so ill take it to a friends to see if it detects it, then ill go get it repaired.

Doubt it'll be detected w/o CoreAudio drivers...

When I read the title of this thread, I really wanted to say, "its behind the couch":D:D. Did you try a new firewire cable? They do fail for no apparent reason(and the only way to find out is to try a new one). The stock cable that came with my 002, gave up the ghost at around 6 months and it got no more abuse than you have given yours. I seem to remember that the G5 front firewire port often didn't work with Digi hardware. I would probably uninstall PT and do a re-install. Turn the system off(everything)>connect the 003 to the rear firewire port and leave it powered off>start the computer and run the installer>when the installer asks for the interface to be connected, turn on the 003 power switch and complete the install. All your plugins SHOULD be intact. Use a new cable and I will cross my fingers for ya:rolleyes:
